French counterterrorism prosecutors said Thursday they would bring charges against an 18-year-old woman accused of plotting a jihadist attack on a church over the Easter weekend.

Identified only as LB, the woman was arrested at her home in the southern city of Beziers over the weekend.

She will stand before an anti-terrorism judge on Thursday charged with belonging to a criminal terrorist conspiracy and possession of explosive devices, the anti-terrorism law enforcement agency PNAT said in a statement.

The investigation was launched after “information about the threat of an attack on a church over Easter weekend,” the unit said.

During the raid on their home, police found a picture of Samuel Paty, the school teacher who was killed in October after showing his class cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

They also confiscated documents describing “multiple plans for violent action”, others related to the Islamic State Group and Nazism and belonged to a church near their home, the PNAT said.

France remains on high alert after massacres on its territory by Islamist radicals in 2015 and a spate of attacks in late 2020.

These included the beheading of Paty by a teenager from the southern Chechnya region of Russia and the knife attack by a migrant from Tunisia on a church in the southern city of Nice on October 29, in which three people died.
