In a kind of record, over 850 deforestation protesters have been arrested in Canada since ril 2021. This record was created for the largest act of civil disobedience in the country.

Although most of the trees have been cut down, protesters are trying to save the hundreds of years that remain. These trees are found in the ancient forest on Vancouver Island.

Protesters have also clashed with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to try to preserve these trees.

As part of the Rainforest Flying Squad, the protesters used various methods to resist the logging. They locked their bodies on the road, chained themselves to tree trunks and stayed in the trees.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have also reportedly reacted aggressively. Protester Jean-François Savard told The Guardian: “The [police] are very frustrated with our persistence because we are constantly rebuilding and developing new ideas. People don’t give up. ”

Police have also been criticized for removing name tags, covering their faces and preventing the press from covering the ongoing protest.

The protesters also protect the Marbled Murrelet chicks, which are an endangered species that live in the ancient trees.
