China instructs Afghan special envoys as it prepares to play a bigger role after US troops withdraw



China has appointed Yue Xiaoyong, a seasoned diplomat with experience in the United States and the Middle East, as its new special envoy for Afghanistan. Yue is replacing Liu Jian, who was referred to the post only a year ago. Diplomatic observers said his testimony was a signal that Beijing was ready to play a bigger role in the country after the US troops withdrew. “China has always been proactive in the Afghan peace process and pushed for it,” said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian….
