The resolution was passed by an overwhelming 580-26 majority European Parliament. In a similar development, European lawmakers called for the EU trade office in Taiwan to be renamed the EU office in Taiwan.

The development comes amid renewed tensions between China and Taiwan this month since Chinese jets repeatedly invaded Taipei’s airspace as the country launched its own fighter jets to thwart the Chinese threat.
