Nearly 400 employees at e-commerce company Amazon and tech giant Google have asked their companies to sign a $ 1.2 billion military contract with Israel.

They wrote an open letter to their respective companies to bring the Nimbus project to an end.

Project Nimbus, a contract to provide cloud services to the government and military of Israel, enables the monitoring and collection of data on Palestinians. It was signed amid the conflict in Gaza.

The letter said: “We cannot look the other way as the products we make are being used to deny Palestinians their basic rights, to evict Palestinians from their homes and to attack Palestinians in Gaza – actions that lead to war crimes investigations by internationalists Criminal Court. ”

Employees talked about the supremacy of privacy and a vision for a better and safer future.

“To build that brighter future, the companies we work for must stop contracting with all militarized organizations in the US and beyond. These contracts harm the communities of technology workers and users alike. While we publicly promise to support and assist our users, contracts like this covertly make it easier to monitor and target the same users. ”

Both companies are already faced with backlash because of their dealings with customs and border protection as well as immigration and customs authorities.

Amazon employees had previously written a letter to founder Jeff Bezos asking him to support the Palestinians and cut ties with the Israeli armed forces.
