Zoonotic diseases are infectious diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans. Like COVID-19, bird flu, malaria or Ebola. Around 2.6 billion people develop zoonosis every year. Some zoonotic diseases such as rabies are only transmitted through direct animal-to-human contact. Others, even more dangerous, start with animals and cause widespread human-to-human transmission. Nuclear-derived techniques can be used to track pathogens on their way from animals to humans in order to help the world respond better to future outbreaks.
